PortoGalante
Ensemble
The group was founded in 2003 by
Filipe Veríssimo and performs ancient music using period instruments. The group
is made up of musicians from some of the best known Portuguese orchestras and
its main objectives are to promote the performance of ancient music and to
encourage young musicians to use period instruments, an area which is sadly
lacking, particularly in the north of Portugal. The PortoGalante Ensemble made
its début on the 1st of October 2003 (World Day of Music) in the Sé Catedral do
Porto in a concert introduced by Rui Vieira Nery.
